iGrid 2005

Monday, September 26th, 2005

This week I’m at iGrid 2005. The equipment and demos people are showing here is amazing, it’s one big collection of fast machines, tile displays, huge displays, huge projectors, webcams, etcetera. I will post some pictures once I get back home.

In the meantime you can also enjoy some first-hand experiences from the official iGrid 2005 blog. There’s some marketing stuff in there, but also some nice coverages of what people are doing.

Quickies…

I’m sorry I haven’t been posting as much as I promised to do. I couldn’t find much time to post something here, because the last week has been a bit hectic, but fun. I will try to post something more about my experiences with Getting Things Done since I last posted.

But for now, just two quick remarks about applications that I ran into and would like to bring to your attention:

  • During the last week I have been busy with preparing presentations and I finally found a proper slide package for LaTeX, LaTeX Beamer. You can make presentations in LaTeX without making it look like you’re doing it just for LaTeX.
  • And via TaoOfMac I noticed FreeRuler One of those applications that make you think, “Wow, why didn’t I think of that”. The idea, like the name, is really simple, it’s a free on-screen ruler application.
  • Finally: Tim Bray has an excellent take on the Open Office standard format vs the proprietary Microsoft solution on his blog. Excellent analysis of some common arguments against open formats.
